Book and jacket in very good condition. Re-print of Neihardt's 1910 classic of his adventurous trip down the Missouri River in an open power-boat. This edition is illustrated with numerous black and white photos.

A small collection of signed, typed and handwritten thank you letters, and Christmas cards sent from a noted English actress, Phyllis Neilson-Terry, to two longtime fans. Phyllis Neilson-Terry (1892-1977) was born in London, the daughter of actors Julia Neilson and Fred Terry, into the third generation of the Terry family, a noted British theatrical dynasty. She was educated in Paris and at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she studied to be a singer. She made her stage debut at age 16, took over a leading role when her mother fell ill the following year, and began to make waves. Green cloth with gilt titling to spine, printer stain top edge - lightly soiled, edges of covers soiled and bent slightly inwards, front corner bumped, light sunning to spine, light foxing, edges of text block soiled, pages toned. Color folded map included, bound inside. First edition. Good condition. The Danakil area explored here "forms an irregular rectangle, some 400 miles long from north to south, by 150 miles wide, and is an upraised sea -bed." This book recounts the expedition that traversed the Danakil from south to north. "During our journey of three and a half months we marched some 800 miles...In these pages I have related the vicissitudes of our journey as I wrote them in my journal at the time of their occurrence.

Contains No. 9 of Vol. IX, published October 28, 1815; and New series, No. 7 Vol. III published April 14, 1821. Both issues are very clean, with no edge wear and only light spotting; very good condition. The 1815 issue contains news on the just-concluded war of 1812; a reflection on Napoleon's letter to the prince regent of England which seemed to suggest that Napoleon was an enemy of France; a report on the newly formed Kingdom of the Netherlands; and more interesting content. Emotional and somewhat nasty typed letter from Jack London's former friend Joseph Noel to London regarding the timing of the release of Sea Wolf as a silent movie in 1913. Jack London and Joseph Noel were close friends for many years and Joseph had the acquired all dramatic rights Sea Wolf. As Noel writes in this letter, "Previous to February 20, 1912, I held all the dramatic rights of the Sea Wolf. On that date you, under the cloak of friendship, took with a word the moving picture rights back. Buried within the booklet is the announcement of the completion of the "Logan Pass Detour", now known as the "Going to the Sun Highway" one of the more beautiful and dramatic roads in any national park.
