Slightly later full russian calf, smooth spine, divided into six panels by gilt rules, title in gilt to second panel, rectangular gilt device made of up volutes to remaining panels, covers with gilt single fillet border. Spine faded, slightly rubbed to extremities. Very lightly browned internally, last one hundred or so pages have a light water stain to top right corner but fairly unobtrusive. From the library of Earl Eldon, with his name and bookplate to front pastedown. Eldon is one of the dedicatees. First Edition. Full Calf. Good+. 8vo.

Later reback, with new paper label to spine, corners worn, edges bumped and chipped, paper covering boards rubbed, inner joints renewed, front free endpaper creased and spotted with some light foxing to text, plates clean. Housed in a modern cloth drop back box with title label to spine, the box is lightly soiled and has splits to foot of spine. Complete with forty fine coloured aquatints some watermarked 1813, originally issued in parts, and also with the text in French for the French market (cf. Tooley). With attractive views of Versaille and its fountains and gardens, but perhaps the most interesting are the Parisian views, which are inspired by Piranesi, with eight views of bridges and a further seven views from beneath bridges, resulting in unusual and dramatic views of the French capital. Externally a couple of minor scrapes but generally very good, internally light browning to text, occasional light foxing, closed tear to 2Z, aquatints quite bright and clean. Original paper label laid on to ffep, with previous owners name to head. Complete with seven (six coloured) aquatints.
