Description:
Joliet, IL: For the Author, 1884. Second edition of 1884. Hard Cover. Hinges repaired. Front board spotted (see photos) But tight and square./None. Marshall, a Will County farmer in civilian life, served in the 33rd Illinois Volunteer Infantry from 1861 to 1864. The unit's service was primarily in Missouri so scarce stuff there. They also went down the Mississippi River, spent some time with Army of the TN and completed their service on the Alabama Gulf Coast. A good Midwestern unit history which are not all that common. There is a faint pencil signature of Noah Preston. The only one by that name to survive the War was a member of the 96th USCT according to my database. He was born in Louisiana. Nevins I-128. Dornbusch I-IL-164.

Nashville: Publication Committee, 1904. First. Hard Cover. Spine lettering faded as with all copies. Cracked hinges, otherwise tight and square. Contains a number of small check marks in the margins that are easily erased./None. The 20th was formed in the Nashville area. They went on to serve in the Army of Tennesse and were engaged at Shiloh and Chickamauga. Following the Atlanta campaign, the regiment followed Hood to Tennessee and the army's destruction at Franklin and Nashville. The 20th spent most of its service in General Bate's command, Stewart's Corp. Unusual book organization with lengthy and detailed company histories and rosters at the beginning of the text.. This followed by the regimental history and closes with a number of personal biographies. Nevins I-126: A full and probably reliable account of a Western unit..." Dornbusch II-1024.

Perry, NY: Ladies' Cemetery Association, 1870. First. Hard Bound. Rear hinge repaired, rest VG-./None. A rather morbid publisher, but the book has numerous lists of those who died in prisons, on the battle field and those wounded who died at home. The book contains not only a roster for the 24th, but also lists those from Perry who served in other units. THIS HISTORY CONTAINS A BRIEF AND VERY RARE ACCOUNT OF AN ATTEMPT TO USE ROCKETS INSTEAD OF STANDARD ARTILLERY. TWO COMPANIES FORMED A BATTALION AND UNDERWENT TRAINING BY A BRITISH "ROCKET SCIENTIST." DIDN'T WORK OUT, HOWEVER, BUT NON-THE-LESS AN INTERESTING TALE. Dornbusch I-NY-61. Nevins I-130.

Description:
New York: Veteran Volunteer Publishing, 1891. First Edition. HB. Overall a good book. Spine lattering and imprint on front board bright. Square and tight./No Jacket. A keeper. The Sixth served in the Florida Panhandle at Pensacola and Santa Rosa Island. Accounts about that phase of the War are virtually nonexistent, I know I lived there 26 years. The book most likely was once owned by Sergeant William Knappmann who served in Company H of the regiment. His photo is found on page 11 and his named is mentioned on page 54. This is gleaned from a death notice for Martha Knappmann that is tipped in on the ffep. She was probably William's wife. A very brief unit history is tipped onto the back gluedown. A handsome book containing rare photos and impressions of the Florida area.

Nashville: Publishing House of M.E. Church, 1909. First. Hard Bound. Spine lettering faded as is the usual case Front lettering dulled but easily readible. Front hinge repair. Portraits are in outstanding condition./None.. The young Morton was a member of a Nashville militia unit that, when the War began, became part of the famed First Tennessee Infantry. Morton gained a captaincy (supposedly the youngest captain in Confederate service) and served under Nathan Bedford Forrest as his chief of artillery. The book contains a discussion of nearly all the battles Forrest fought. After the War, Morton earned his medical degree and also headed the Tennessee section of the Ku Klux Klan where he brought Forrest into the ranks of the organization. Nevins I-134. Dornbusch III-823. Description:
Washington City: National Publishing, 1909. Hard Bound. Book G. Spine lettering almost gone, a common malady with this book../None.. Great stuff on the border state war in Missouri. Confederate in tone, local in interest. The author should not be confused with the doctor in the Lincoln Conspiracy. Missouri histories of the War, particularly Confederate, are hard to acquire as few were written.Missouri is an area where the really vicious fighting occurred and had consequences for several generations. Graduates of this conflict included the James and Younger brothers, John Brown, Quantrell, etc. Nevins II-158.
