[Original artwork]., [1948-1954].. Twenty-six original drawings in pencil, ink, watercolour, and chalk (some double-sided), depicting scenes from Lambert's home and school life. The largest measuring 38 x 27.5cm. Condition is very good with the odd small tear, crease or minor mark here and there. A wonderful group of drawings documenting the preoccupations of a teenage girl during the late 1940s/early 1950s. Executed between the ages of 10 and 16, the drawings often focus on school activities, especially sports (tennis, hockey, and swimming), romance, and the female form, as well as including two intriguing images of girls exploring an attic full of books. Also present are some charming domestic portraits, including a striking self-portrait of Lambert herself.Thelma Lambert later became a professional author and illustrator of children's books, producing a sizeable output of work from the 1960s onwards.

A very good copy, the binding square and firm with a little creasing to the spine and a few small marks to the boards. The contents with tanning to the endpapers are otherwise in very good order. The unclipped dustwrapper with a little marking and minor creasing and chipping to the extremities is otherwise also very good. Contemporary owner's name in ink to the front free endpaper ("A.L. Simnett[?]"), dated December 1942. The book contained within a contemporary home-made cloth dustwrapper extensively decorated in pen and ink to the front panel and spine with illustrations of Cairo street scenes and Egyptian antiquities, also incorporating manuscript titles. A very good copy, the binding secure; the contents with two creases to the front free endpaper and some light scattered foxing are otherwise in good order. The cloth dustwrapper with a few spots of light foxing is otherwise in very good order. A comprehensive and entertaining account of contemporary Egypt by the French writer Fernand Leprette (1890-1970), best known for his role within the literary and artistic life of Egypt during the inter-war period. Signed by the artist in black ink to the foot, with additional dedication in blue ink "To Clair and Dorothea with love". Printed label for the publisher Alfred A. Knopf to the verso, with publication details added in pencil: "Endpaper for The Runaway Soldier by: Fruma Gottschalk, artist: Simon Lissim". Condition is very good with some browning to the blank margins (where previously covered by a mount), a minor scuff to the right of the figure at the foot, and the odd faint spot of foxing. The colours remain bright and vivid. A typically joyful, exuberant painting by the Ukrainian-American artist and theatre set designer Simon Lissim (1900-1981). Born in Kiev, Lissim studied art in London and Paris, living in the latter between 1921-1940 where he established a significant reputation as a set designer, becoming closely associated with Sergei Diaghilev, Léon Bakst, and Alexandre Benois. A very good, unsophisticated copy, the binding secure although with cracking to the joints (the boards held by the cords only, albeit firmly), chipping and loss to the spine and wear to the corners and extremities. The contents with toning, the occasional minor mark, a small hole to pp.201-202 (affecting a couple of words, but with no loss of meaning), and the odd small tear or chip to page margins where pages have been roughly opened, are otherwise in very good order. Profusely illustrated throughout with pictures of all manner of cycling accessories. 128pp. A very good copy, the binding firm with marks to the upper cover and a small nick to the foot of the spine. The contents with a little toning are otherwise in very good order throughout. A wonderful insight into cycling in the 1930s, with illustrated advertisements for everything from horns, baskets, and satchels, to bells, peddles, and leggings.
