Dundee, George Petrie, Nethergate, 1895. Large folio (48 x 39 cm). Original maroon half crushed morocco over pebble-grained cloth, lettered and ruled in gilt, morocco dust-wrappers (a little damaged), top edge gilt, patterned endpapers in blue and gold; pp. [xvi], lix, 18, [2], errata slip, colour frontispiece, 59 tinted lithographic plates, 2 colour facsimiles of manuscript maps with explanatory letterpress on accompanying sheets; a little rubbing to extremities, initially and towards the end a little spotted; a very good copy of an uncommon and impressive work. First edition, no. 233 of the 'Small Paper Edition' (357 copies printed), signed by the author. According to the limitation note there were even 'Large Paper Copies' with a print run of 155. I very much doubt this, as this 11-kilo book is large enough. Alexander Crawford Lamb was a Scottish art collector, antiquarian, and writer. The illustrator William Gibb had studied art at Edinburgh under Robert Scott Lander before being apprenticed to… Read More

London: Maclehose Press, 2008 - 9. 8vo, 3 vols; original publisher's cloth and boards with matching unclipped dustwrappers; coloured end papers; pp. [vi], 532, [vi]; [vi], 569, [i]; [vi], 602; a few very slight and unobtrusive marks to wrappers, light bumping to head of spine and small 9mm vertical tear to foot of spine of vol. 3; internally bright and clean, a near fine set. First UK editions of all three volumes. As such, all three were published posthumously, and were hugely successful, with prices of first editions rocketing in the first few years after publication. In 2013, Swedish author and crime journalist David Lagercrantz was commissioned to continue the series, with The Girl in the Spider's… Read More

First edition, limited to 475 copies, this set numbered 295. - Complete set have become very rare. "It was not until his wife's death in 1943 that Bernard Shaw began to understand the extraordinary nature of her correspondence with T.E. Lawrence. She had preserved almost all the letters she had received – over 300, some very long – and had recovered several of those that she herself had written to Lawrence. In her engagement diary, she had used symbols to note the dates that she wrote to Lawrence or received letters from him. When Bernard Shaw read her letters he said: 'It takes a long time for two people to get to know each other, and from a diary I discovered lately, and some letters which she wrote to T. E. Lawrence, I realise that there were many parts of her character that even I did not know, for she poured out her soul to Lawrence.'… Read More
