The writers have created 2 characters, brother and sister Ilana and David, and in each chapter they celebrate a different holiday and learn about its meaning. For the chapter on Pesach, the authors name the holiday's meaning as Continuity: "I was at Sinai." In the story, Ilana learns about her grandmother's childhood, and talk about historical examples of Jewish exodus. The chapter on Yom Kippur discusses the meaning of Prayer: Talking to God. In the story, David and his dad talk about prayer, and how it can be meaningful for individuals. Each chapter includes watercolor illustrations of David and Ilana's family. The book doesn't just tell the stories of these partnerships, either. It tells the stories of the volunteers who make the program successful and charts the progress of a service dog, from birth through puppyhood and training and onto the different types of jobs the dogs do.
