Author photo on rear cover. 32 pp. Twenty-one poems in this Ohio-born poet’s first book (he was 23 years old at the time). Poems include “Fallacies from Black Childhood,” “Militancy With Love,” “Chump Change (Minimum Wage),” and poems to Nikki Giovanni, Julian Bond, and Dudley Randall. Illustration by Jane Banquer Burnham, typography by Evans Printing Company, Concord, and hand-sewn in wrappers by Carolyn Coman, bookbinder. Fine in original, unaddressed envelope. 136 copies were printed in December 1983 for private distribution by Ewert and Kinnell: 100 unsigned with 36 numbered and signed. Although this is one of the 100 unsigned, this copy was SIGNED by Kinnell at a 2003 University of New Hampshire reading that also featured Charles Simic and Donald Hall.
