Description:
1726. (London) (colophon) Printed by S. Aris, (1726). 20pp. 8vo. Drop head title. (worm hole through inner blank margin). This noted bookseller began, like many others, as a publisher of theological books. Dunton spoke of him as a very accomplished person... and shews by his purchasing Dampier's Voyages he knows how to value a good copy. In 1688 he began to publish plays and novels in large numbers. He held shares in all the most important books that were issued and carried on a flourishing business until his death in 1738. He was Master of Stationers in 1727 and again in 1728, and was succeeded in business by two of his brothers, John and Paul.[ESTC (L - GOT only), both bound with a different title; Plomer, Dictionary of Printers and Publishers].

Description:
1857. Fünfte Auflage. Wien, gedruckt by A. Pichler's Witwe & Sohn, 1855. xii, 287 pp. & 1 folding plate at the beginning. Bound after: KRAFT, ALBRECHT. Die Moderne Schule der k.k. Gemälde-Gallerie. Als Anhang zu dem Verzeichniss derselben. Wien, Pichler's Witwe & Sohn, 1857. 22 pp. Slightly later marbled boards. Some foxing. The Imperial Picture Gallery had its origins in the 16th and 17th centuries. It was not until the 18th century that the various holdings were brought together and displayed in Vienna's Stallburg. In 1776 Maria Theresa and her son, Emperor Joseph II decided to transfer the k.k. Gemäldegalerie from the Imperial Stables a part of the city's Hofburg Imperial Palace to the Upper Belvedere. Inspired by the idea of enlightened absolutism, the intention was to make the imperial collection accessible to the general public. The gallery opened five years later, making it one of the first public museums in the world.
