Spine with old hand-written label. = This work forms an early part of a series on the geology of Switzerland in which the individual parts deal with one or two cantons and contain an extensive description of the formations that are present. This work comes with many profiles, and lists of fossils (mainly molluscs) encountered in formations dating from the Jurassic to the middle Teriary. The main title (quoted above)calls for two maps but these are not included. Original printed wrappers. = Fine monograph on the sea urchins with many new taxa, published in the Society's Memoirs. Uncut. Wrappers of inferior paper detached and chipped at edges, and spine cover perished, as often. Volume title and volume contents page with a tear; all the leaves belonging to the work proper, however, only with some wear to the edges, also as usual with uncut copies. In all a very good, clean and unmarked copy.

Original printed wrappers bound in. = Rare early geological report of this state in northeastern North America. Dedicated to a Mr D. B. Narden, "from his friend the author". Apparently, Narden lived in Paris, as his address is written on the front wrapper, and subsequently this copy was obtained by a museum in Paris, as it bears a hand-written label in French, mounted on the front board, and a small library stamp on the title. Small repair with tape of the title page, a small marginal waterstain to a few pages, otherwise a very good copy. Hazen and Hazen, 5577.

Original printed wrappers. = Written by the British ornithologist Frederick John Jackson (1860-1929), author of The birds of Kenya colony and the Uganda protectorate, and illustrated by the famous Anglo-Dutch natural history painter John Gerrard Keulemans (1842-1912). Published together with eight other onithological papers, including one on the systematics of the Turdidae, with two plates by the great Danish bird artist Henrik Grönvold (1858-1940), of which one beautifully coloured; and with some fine text illustrations. Uncut. Some wear to spine ends; otherwise very good, clean, unmarked.

Original printed wrappers. = A very uncommon work published in the Survey's Memoirs, or Palaeontologia Indica. Wrappers a bit frayed; abraded over spine ends; stamp on front wrapper, small stamp on half-title verso, label on half-title recto. Otherwise very good.

Two lithographed broadsides (91.0 x 54.5 cm and 88.0 x 54.5 cm). = A fine and rare work by the French medical doctor Jean-Baptiste Marc Bourgery (1797-1849) and the French painter and lithographer Nicolas Henri Jacob (1782-1871), both better known from their later published Traité complet de l'anatomie de l'homme, comprenant l'anatomie chirurgicale et la médecine opératoire. The current work, fully titled Anatomie élémentaire en 20 planches, avec un texte explicatif à part, formant un manuel complet d'anatomie physiologique, consists of a series of twenty very large anatomical plates, and an additional small explanatory textbook (here not included). Original uniform printed wrappers. = Important work on tea and tea cultivating in the former Dutch East Indies (Malay Archipelago), by the man who introduced advanced forms of tea culture from China. Despite his efforts, and the high quality of the tea itself, the tea production in the Dutch East Indies was economically unsuccessful until the 1870's. Well illustrated. Uncut. A third volume was published later and is not included. Wrappers soiled and front wrapper first volume with a tear, second volume with a (tea?) stain in the upper outer corner, not reaching the text. Rare.

Printed wrappers. = A seldom-seen stratigraphical work. Written by the geologist Jacqueline Jacot. The author's thesis. The photos are original prints, mounted.; the text is in cyclostat with blank versos. A very good, clean copy.

Lyon, Société Linnéenne de Lyon, 1898. 8vo (27.2 x 17.6 cm). 26 pp. Contemporary blind wrappers in later stiff, protective wrappers. = One of several mid to late19th-century regional catalogues of non-marine molluscs. Almost every French département had its own keen malacologist tackling the local malacofauna. This one, written by the French malacologist, entomologist, and botanist Édouard Jacquemet (1862-after 1914) deals with a region (not actually an island) in the north of the département de l'Isère, near the French Alps. Published in the society's Annales, volume 63. The author compares the extant fauna with those of the Quaternary of the same area. Stamp of the American malacologist Richard Irwin Johnson (1925-2020) in the top margin of the wrappers. A very good, clean copy.

Spines with four raised bands, gilt and black lines, gilt title. Marbled endpapers. = The rare first edition, with the map of India, of this series of letters from this famous French botanist and explorer, written during his voyage, on board the French reseach vessel Zelée, to India up to his tragic death at the age of only 31 years. Bookplate of the French carcinologist Jacques Forest on the front pastedowns. Front board of the first volume and spine of second volume detached; some light spotting, but otherwise in a very good condition.

Contemporary blind quarter cloth over marbled boards. = Rare illustrated work on geology, petrography and mineralogy of mountains by the German medical doctor and palaeontologist and palaeobotanist Georg Friedrich [Von] Jaeger (or Jäger) (1785-1866), who was also the first to describe ichthyosaurs (see ADB, vol. 13, pp. 648-649). He refers in his introduction to Sedgwick, Murchison, Roth and others. Small pictorial fair label on front pastedown; occasional very weak foxing, otherwise an excellent copy. Cat. BM(NH) 2, p. 919. Original quarter cloth over pictorial boards. = A rarely seen, richly illustrated atlas, with great pictures of the landscape in the oil-rich regions of this country mostly north of the Caucasus, bordering the Caspian Sea. Text in Russian with a summary in English (241-257). Stamp on first blank recto and first title; otherwise very good, clean.

[France], no place, no publisher, ca. 1863-1890. 13 oblong sheets (22.3 x 29.2 cm), all with fine watercolour paintings, either full-sized, or smaller, in a drawn rectangular frame. And one drawing on slightly smaller paper, more sketchy, in pencil. = Count Roger de Bouillé (1819-1906) was a French mountaineer (one would say "pyreneeist" rather than alpinist, as he climbed solely in the Pyrenees mountains), but also a draftsman, illustrator, watercolourist and author, under the pseudonym "JAM", of several books on his ascents and explorations. In 1865, he settled in the town of Pau and from there he explored the western Pyrenees. In his works he described not only the itineraries, mountains, and landscapes, but also the local flora, fauna, and history.
