Description:
[TWAIN, MARK] [Clemens, S. L.] James, George Wharton. MARK TWAIN, AN APPRECIATION OF HIS PIONEER WRITINGS ON FASTING AND HEALTH. Pasadena, California: Radiant Life Press, 1919. 8pp., folio, illustrated with four previously unpublished photographs of Twain. First edition, an offprint from the May, 1919 issue of `Physical Culture.' Self-wrapper. Nearly fine. This was privately printed by James, whose ads for his own books cover the last two pages. James quotes liberally from Twain's works, and gives an amazing account of how he came to get Twain to pose for the four photographs reproduced here. A very rare piece.…

Description:
James, Henry, and Walter Besant. THE ART OF FICTION. Boston: Cupples, Upham & Co., 1885. First edition. Modern green quarter morocco and Cockerell marbled boards, gilt. Fine copy. This thin little book was produced in a small print run on poor quality paper. One of James' major essays, and rarer than James' triple-deckers. Cupples had printed Besant's essay in pamphlet form a short time before, but when James' essay appeared in `Longman's Magazine' they reprinted Besant's essay from the old plates and appended James' essay. James' essay occupies pages 51-85, with a separate title-page, but it was not issued…

Description:
[Twain, Mark] [Clemens, S. L.] Jennings, John A., ed. READINGS FROM AMERICAN AUTHORS. Dublin: Carson Brothers; London: Simpkin, Marshall & Co. [1884] First edition. Original yellow pictorial boards with Twain's profile portrait on front cover. Spine lettering barely legible, but spine is wholy intact; some dust to covers, but a very good copy otherwise, and unusually good for this fragile and scare yellowback anthology. This collection includes a broad selection of American writings with a strong emphasis on humorists. Twain had visited Ireland in 1873, but this is an early appearance of writings in Ireland, and…
