The second novel in "The Furys Chronicle" which would eventually encompass five books.

Only flaw to book is fading to top 1/4" of spine; dust jacket missing corresponding top 1/4" of spine panel, some fading to black as expected. Overall, a very nice copy. Hanley's writing explored the lives and struggles of working-class people, often in stark and realistic terms. His experiences growing up in poverty in Liverpool and working in a variety of jobs gave him firsthand knowledge of the conditions faced by working-class people, and this informed his writing.

Slight wear to edges, minor cocking, a nice copy overall. Marion Harland (Mary Virginia Terhune) is best known today as a cookbook & domestic science author, but she was prolific and wrote many popular novels such as this.

Inscribed by Mark Harris thus: "This book is signed for the students of Catlin Gabel School, where I visited October 22, 1969, & then saw a SOCCER game--baseball being out of season...among girls (never out of season). Mark Harris, West Lafayette, Indiana, 12-12-69, & all this the labor & effort & trouble of Mary Park." The book is stamped with the school stamp and has a library pocket at rear endpaper: thus the "good" condition. A few small chips & some soiling to DJ. Catlin Gabel is a Portland, Oregon girls' school. The Southpaw is the first of four novels about Henry Wiggen of the New York Mammoths, the second of which (Bang the Drum Slowly) would be Harris' most popular work, and a classic of sports fiction.

Jerome Alfred Hart was the publisher and associate editor of the San Francisco based magazine The Argonaut. This is a collection of his travel writings on Spain, generally light-hearted and fun. Binding not signed.

Dust jacket has a chip removing part of author's name to front panel, toning to spine, price-clipped. The author's novel about the Smoky / Appalachian Mountains in East Tennessee. Sorry about the front endpaper, but it is priced accordingly.
