Cambridge: John Wilson and Son, 1877. This volume was sponsored by the Maine Historical Society, and published as part of the "Documentary History of the State of Maine" vol. II, second series). Dr. Woods had previously been president of Bodin College. Original dark brown cloth, original endpapers, first edition, lxi, 253pp (including index) with the a facsimile of the first page of Hakluyt's original letter, and Heads of Records, bound after the text. Upper spine edge chipped off, binding slightly shaken, minimal browning to text, front hinge starting. Internally very good. This volume was based on an original document by Hakluyt from 1584, a great deal of which ruminated on relations with Native Americans. Howes H25. London: Mount & Page (?), 1728. VG+ with early, nice hand colored outlines. Paper quality is excellent. Halley, of comet fame, was an English astronomer and geographer who succeeded Flamsteed as Royal Astronomer c. 1720. This map was probably issued by Mount & Page, and the date is approximate. The titled area, actually an inset on the map, is of The Sound between Denmark and Sweden, with Amack Island, and Copenhagen shown on the map. Prominent compass rose, rhumb lines and depth soundings. The larger, less detailed portion of the chart, is of the eastern part of the Gulf of Finland, with Petersberg (later Leningrad) shown. This attractive and scarce chart measures 19x11.5 inches (50x29cm)..

Carlton (Australia): Queensberry Hill Press, 1985. Virtually new facsimile production (#83 of 155) with introductory text and keys to this famous map. Covers full gilt-panelled tan leather, in thin (a bit soiled) slipcase. The introduction discusses Thomas Ham, "...Melbourne's pioneer cartographer and map publisher..." in some detail. The first (1847) through 10th (1864) editions of this map are all discussed. The facsimile here (21 linen backed panels with hand colored outlines), with a copy of the orginal advertisement, is of the 1847 issue. This is a very nice and relatively scarce production.. Limited/Numbered. Full-Leather. Fine. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Paris: Chez Duchartre et Van Buggenhoudt, 1927. Interior VG. Imitation vellum cover with printed cover (dual color), but a bit soiled. This was a special French facsimile edition, from the series "Collection Illustree des Grands Voyages en Amerique au XVIe. Siecle". Minimal foxing at outside edges, but the well-done facsimile plates are clean. Full rear index of plates. A nice volume of these important voyages. The original leather tie is missing.. Limited. Original Wraps. Very Good/No Jacket. Illus. by De Bry, Le Moyne. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.

San Francisco: The Book Club of California (Grabhorn Press), 1950. VG with minimal rubbing to edges of cover, with interior in excellent condition. Quarter red leather with red and black decorative boards. Only 375 copies were printed (this one is SIGNED ON REAR ENDPAPER BY THE GRABHORNS, whose press made the volume), and is considered by most critics to be the best of Harlow's books. There are 39 maps (with detailed explanations), 140 pages and an extensive bibliography. This is an important, impressive and scarce work.
