London: John Churchill. 1843. (viii), i - 436pp. Ex-library from Western State Hospital, Staunton, VA. The backstrip has been replaced and a paper label affixed (complete with typo). The boards are in great shape for nearly 180 years old. The interior hinges are starting to separate, but the backstrip repair has produced a solid book. The pages are clean, clear, and unbrowned, though some leaves in the middle missed the trimming knife and are still connected at the top. A small 1/2" brown stain affects the outer edge of the first few pages. There are library and discard stamps inside the front and back covers, and glue remains inside the back cover presumably from the library checkout card pocket. (50762) . Good+. First Edition. For example, "One Egyptian private ran so fast he caught up to his officers." There is scraping on the front and back covers near the hinge side, and a few small horizontal creases. The top open front corner also has a minor triangle crease. Those are really the only defects; the inside of the book is clean and unmarked. (57271) . Good. Paperback.
