Books measure 215mm x 145mm approximately.
Nicely bound in full contemporary tan calf. Spine with four gilt-ruled raised bands with elaborate gilt decoration to compartments and maroon and black title and volume labels. Single gilt-fillet borders to boards. All page edges coloured. Portrait engraving frontispiece to title page verso of vol I.
CONDITION
Very good condition overall with all bindings holding very firm. Just some light uniform surface scratches, marks and the occasional nick to board edges, and very light bumping to corners.
Internally the pages are uniformly clean with some marginal toning to earlier and latter pages of each volume. Some shadowing to title page of vol I from portrait frontispiece. Previous owner bookplate central to front paste-down of each volume.

Superbly bound by Bumpus in full vellum in traditional "arts & crafts" style. Spine with gilt floral and stem design five and author / title label in rich green. raised bands and title / author in gilt. Richly decorated inner gilt dentelle work with further gilt fillet borders and cornices to both boards and light blue and rose end-papers and paste-downs. All page edges in gilt.
Twenty-five wonderful coloured illustrations by C. E. Brook throughout.
CONDITION
The binding is in wonderfully good condition indeed and holding very firm. I doubt the book has been opened to read. Superbly bound in half rich green calf over gilt-ruled light green cloth covered boards by MacLehose of Glasgow. Spine with five gilt-ruled raised rope bands with glit boxed compartments and title in gilt. Marbled end-papers and paste-downs, and page top edges in gilt, remainder uncut.
CONDITION
The binding is in very good condition indeed and holding very firm. Boards and spine exhibit a few minor scuffs and surface scratches with moderate rubbing to hinges and some wear to board edges and corners. Internally the pages are generally very clean although the end-papers and last few paginated pages exhibit some foxing patches and spotting. Large previous owner bookplate central to front paste-down.
