There is some light general wear to slipcase exterior and it is possible that the book spine and matching slipcase ends have faded slightly. On the back board is a small white spot (undyed thread in the cloth?) which appears to be a production flaw and there is very slight wear to boards in general. Binding and corners intact. The writer, Eleanor Farjeon lived from 1881-1965, won the Hans Christian Anderson International medal in 1956 and is considered one of the best poets and writers of children's literature ever! (She also wrote Morning Has Broken if you remember Cat Stevens). Believe this 1937 book is somewhat autobiographical, being about skipping and poverty. (Elsie Piddock, a 'born skipper," is assisted by fairies to become the greatest ever, and she establishes the tradition of skipping the new moon in, depicted in 2000 by the artist in a magical green light) It has only recently become a picture book, with Charlotte Voake, another award winner, selected as the artist and she is clearly wonderful. This book won the 1968 Stephen Leacock Award for Humour and is a 1969 printing (6th), illustrated by Doug Wright, with an introduction by Allan McFee. Max Ferguson was a CBC radio broadcaster who was noted for his humour, but also for his discovery and encouragement of Canadian musicians. Alex Sinclair, a long time member of the Ontario band, Tamarack, is also credited with the writing of over two hundred songs of political satire for the CBC radio network. Both are members of the Porcupine Hall of Fame (and that is my argument that this is therefore not just signed and inscribed, but also an association copy!).
