[3], iv-xii, [1], 2-408pp. Modern half calf and marbled paper over boards, raised bands, spine in six panels, title label to second panel, double rules in copper to either side of bands, date to foot, remaining panels with repeated small volute tool in blind. Externally very good. Internally lightly browned throughout. One folding lithograph water stained to folds, three with a closed tear where joining the mount. With five folding coloured lithographic plans, one uncoloured, and two folding tables. The folding plans include a plan of drains in Irish workhouses, a plan and sections of temporary fever wards, a drawing for an economical bedstead, a temporary dormitory in an Irish workhouse, birds eye view of the Limerick Union workhouse and the ground plan of the Limerick Union workhouse. Three cards from fascist era Italy. 1. An identity card for a young Italian girl, Clara Marini, born in 1927, seemingly issued in 1933, approximately 65mm x 95mm in size (folded), with a photograph and official stamp, central fold; 2. Double sided membership card for the National Fascist Confederation of Farmers, (Landlords and Tenant Farmers section), approximately 70mm x 105mm in size, 1934 and 3. A membership card for the Confederation of Fascist Corporations, approximately 65mm x 100mm in size (folded), 1926, for a Dr. Salvatore Valenti, though he doesn't appear to have paid his membership stamps as the monthly dues spaces on the card are empty, central fold. A report from a Committee set up to examine the Formation and Government of Friendly Societies or Institutions in Norfolk, relating to the Catton and Rockland Friendly Societies. The Committee was particularly exercised by the rules of the Societies which required meetings to be held in public houses, with "a certain sum to be expended on Liquor by every Member, whether he attends or not, and the Meetings not to separate till all the Liquor has been consumed - practices which cannot fail to be productive of the worst consequences to the community at large ... and other most injurious effects to their Members, and defeat the benevolent purposes for which they were originally formed". London: Pardon and Son, 1869. Double sided, lithographed ticket for the opening ceremony of Bunhill Fields cemetery, approximately 270mm x 190mm in size. Front with one or two tiny spots of foxing but is generally quite bright and clean, reverse with remnants of glue from once being stuck in an album, with some light discolouring and surface abrasion, but not affecting text. The reverse is a plan of the burial ground, with the location of prominent internees numbered (John Bunyan, Daniel De Foe, Richard Cromwell, Isaac Watts, Thomas Hardy, John Horne Tooke etc). It is the burial ground of Nonconformists. This 'opening ceremony', (it had already been in use for over two hundred years), was to celebrate the development of the site by the City of London. This involved laying out paths, undertaking tree planting and carrying out repair work to the tombs including re-cutting and recording inscriptions. Grays: J. Jessop Photographic cabinet card of an unidentified fireman, approximately 110mm x 165mm in size, n.d. c.1880? Slightly rubbed to corners, otherwise fairly bright and clean, reverse is blank. An attractive image of a fireman, presumably from the local fire brigade, with his kit, medals (including what appears to be a long service medal) and iconic brass helmet. First Edition. Unbound. Yeovil: Chaffin Carte-de-Visite of an unidentified fireman, approximately 65mm x 105mm in size, n.d. c.1865? Image slightly rubbed, otherwise fairly clean. Reverse with printed details of Chaffin of Yeovil. John Chaffin set up his studio in 1862 and by 1871 was joined by his sons, so this image was presumably taken sometime between those dates. Fitzalan writing to his architect Robert Abraham on December 12th, 1840, noting the presence of bugs in his house in Gloucester Place, "which of itself is enough to stop proceedings there, so that I think we must make up our minds to remain where we are this year and look about for next. We are very much obliged to you for the trouble you have taken for us; but remember, you must let me have an account of what you have done, as your time is much too valuable to be wasted".
