Subscribers copy, William Brown, who is mentioned in the list of subscribers for the next year, donating 10s 6d. The second mentioned is an answer to the first, noting that it was a paper printed and distributed by [Peter] Taylor, this being a reply on the part of Mr [Robert] Child. Relates to the election of Members of Parliament for Taunton in 1721, both Trenchard and Smyth (Smith) were duly returned. Marlborough: Emberlin and Harold, 1832. Single sided printed broadside, approximately 310mm x 395mm in size. Creased from old folds, slightly browned to central fold, writing to reverse (draft financial agreement, unrelated to printed content) with slight bleed through. Relating to the 1832 parliamentary election in Marlborough, both men mentioned were elected as Tory MP's. First Edition. Unbound. Fair. Elephant Folio. Broadside.

Edinburgh: Alexander Dunbar Single sided printed broadside, approximately 175mm 410mm in size, n.d. but 1835. Lightly browned, slightly creased, one or two tiny nicks to edges, but generally fairly bright. The printer, Alexander Dunbar, doesn't appear in the SBTI, but is possibly the son of the Alexander Dunbar (fl. 1763), mentioned as a 'running stationer' (ie. street hawker of books and pamphlets] in the SBTI. The broadside is a satire on the Conservative candidates James Andrew Broun-Ramsay and John Learmonth, who were comfortably defeated in the Edinburgh election of 1835 by the Whigs, John Campbell and James Abercromby. Abercromby later became speaker of the House of Commons, and then a lord, and his seat was then won by Thomas Babington Macauley. NLS only in JISC. First Edition. Unbound. Good. Elephant Folio. Marlborough: Emberlin and Harold, 1852. Single sided printed broadside, approximately 350mm x 500mm in size. Edges browned and creased with a few small nicks and tears, slightly creased towards centre, otherwise fairly clean. Broadside from the general election of 1852, both Bruce and Baring, supporters of Peel, were elected unopposed with an electorate of 271. The printers, Emberlin and Harold of Marlborough, (fl. 1830-1842 according to the BBTI, but clearly continuing for at least another decade), were also booksellers, stationers, bookbinders, pharmacists and insurance agents (see BBTI). Kendal: Gazette Office, 1843. Single sided printed broadside, approximately 320mm x 435mm in size. Cropped tightly to text, once laid down and halved, now lifted and rejoined with Japanese tissue, slightly creased with some light ink staining and off-setting, dated October 1843 to foot in ink. Anti-Warburton broadside, pertaining to his time as an M.P. for Bridport, "at the general election of 1826 Warburton was returned to parliament for the borough of Bridport in Dorset as a radical. He made his first long speech on 30 November, on foreign goods, and was re-elected in 1830, 1831, 1833, 1835, 1837, and 1841, all of the elections after the Reform Bill of 1832 being severely contested. Even after the 1832 act, Bridport only had 500 voters; it was notoriously corrupt, as well as being dominated by the naval interest. London: S. Burgess, 1911. Single sided printed tissue, approximately 370mm x 370mm in size. Some damp staining to head, one or two spots of light foxing, small hole to bottom left hand corner, but otherwise quite bright and clean. The visit of Kaiser Wilhelm II and George V to Olympia in 1911. The printer was S. Burgess, at 14 Artillery Lane, Bishopsgate, they specialised in these tissues, generally the decorative borders were printed in Japan, with the overprinting which was "commonly primitive .. and display a ... disregard for niceties of typography and spelling" (Rickards, page 221) done locally. No Place: No Publisher Single sided trade card, approximately 95mm x 60mm in size, no publisher (presumably produced 'in house'), n.p. but almost certainly Glasgow, n.d. c.1853. Slightly discoloured to edges, especially left hand side, corners of reverse lightly glue stained. Gilmour [J.B.] and Dean [Alexander Davidson] are described as stationers and general printers, with account books, binding, paper ruling, embossing etc to foot. The address on the card isn't matched exactly in the SBTI, which has them at 86 Buchanan Street and 13 Exchange Place between 1846-52 and 86 Buchanan Street and 13 & 15 Exchange Place in 1853. We have given 1853 as it is the first time that 15 Exchange Place is seen as an address. First Edition. Unbound. Good. 64mo (Oblong). Trade Card.

Senegal: No Publisher, 1813. Double sided manuscript receipt, approximately 260mm x 130mm in size. Lightly browned, slightly creased, a few small chips and tears, but generally complete and fairly clean. Dated 23rd January, 1813 and issued in Senegal, this is a bill of exchange on Greenwood Cox & Co. (the army agents), for the sum of one hundred pounds sterling, to reimburse the local agent paying wages to the soldiers of the Royal African Corps in Senegal. The reverse has a certification of the current rate of exchange by the 'principal inhabitants and merchants of Senegal'. The Royal African Corps was established in 1804, originally raised as the Goree Corps in 1800, to defend the Island of Goree in Senegal. It was composed primarily of prisoners, deserters and condemned men from the hulks. First Edition. Unbound. Good. 24mo (Oblong). Receipt / Invoice.
