Father Tuck's Little Pets Series, circa 1920, small oblong 4to, 175 x 235 mm, 7 x 9¼ inches, red card covers with large colour illustration of RRH pulling a cart with her Teddy on it, lower cover shows 4 children playing in a meadow, text inside covers describes RRH's holidays by the sea, 4 full page full coloured illustrations, 9 full page in black, white and orange, brief descriptive text below illustrations and all depict young children having fun. No connection with the traditional RRH. Grazed patch to background of illustration on upper cover 30 x 30 mm, (1¼" x 1¼"), otherwise a very good copy. Linda Edgerton (1890-1983), illustrated several children's books and many postcards, she also designed nursery chinaware. Most of her illustrations are designed to appeal to very young children. Collected edition 1856, 12mo, 147 x 95 mm, 5¾ x 3¾ inches, blue morocco grain cloth with blind stamped decoration, gilt decoration and lettering to spine, yellow endpapers. Engraved frontispiece and added engraved title page with vignette, both designed by J. Buckley, 276 pages. Spine slightly rubbed, small splits at top and bottom of hinges, maximum 10 mm (½"), tiny nicks to cloth at head and tail of spine, board edges a little rubbed, inner paper hinges split and stuck neatly, neat early name on front endpaper, tiny ink mark to a couple of margins, 4 on text but no loss, otherwise clean, 1 gathering a little slack. FIRST EDITION 1699, A SPECIAL RUBRICATED EDITION ON BETTER PAPER FOR PRESENTATION. 4 small corrections to text in old ink (possibly in Evelyn's hand - see: Geoffrey Keynes, John Evelyn A Study in Bibliophily, illustration on page 127 showing a correction). Small 8vo, approximately 160 x 90 mm, 6¼ x 3½ inches, 1 folding leaf of vegetables by months, pages: [42], 1-192, [50] - appendix, index and errata leaf, first blank present, contemporary speckled calf (probably by Evelyn's binder, see: Christies Evelyn sale catalogue, plate 27 for similar binding), gilt lettered label and gilt decoration to spine, gilt panel to covers with floral ornament at corners, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers.
