She married Otto I, king of East Frankia and later Emperor of Germany (912-73) and was the ancestor of later German emperors. Her bones were rediscovered at Magdeburg Cathedral in 2008 and she is the only member of the Anglo-Saxon royal house whose remains have so far been the subject of scientific study (the project to examine the bones in the tomb chests at Winchester Cathedral is on-going and not yet published). A splendid 6 page autograph letter (ALS) dated 29.11.1958 from the well-known publisher Peter Davies on his Bedford Square letterhead to author Aidan Reynolds telling him of his knowledge of Machen, Reynolds went on to write an account of Machen's life and work (pub. 1963), together with a photographic postcard of Machen, the reverse printed with information from the 'Friends of Arthur Machen Society. The letter contains a number of anecdotes: 'the first time I met him must have been about 1925, when I got him to write a Preface.....what they had to live on I don't know it can't have been his books'.
