A very fine, crisp copy, as new. At Mountain Meadows on Sept. 11, 1857, local settlers and Paiute warriors waylaid the Fancher party, a wagon train bound from Arkansas to California. The author served as the secretary and accountant of the unfortunate land & sea expedition from New York to San Francisco through Texas and Mexico, organized by Parker French. Originally intended as a "pleasure trip" of 60 days, it stretched out to over 200 days. "The expedition left on May 13, 1850, and... arrived in Mexico tired and destitute.
