New London: Samuel Green, 1816. 16 pp. with a crudely printed illustration of Babcock's hanging. Poor condition with the title page backed with brown paper, crude repairs and in recent wraps. This is an unusual case of a white man being hung for the murder of a black man. Babcock describes in detail his life as a poor farm worker travelling from job to job. He relates that he received word of his father's death from an African American man named London who was in a relationship with his mother and lived with her. Babcock lived with the couple between jobs. One morning London and Babcock's mother were fighting and Babcock entered the fray and stabbed London who later died. There is a long section on his imprisonment and last day leading up to his hanging.

London: Karl Baedeker, 1908. Very good Original red limp cloth gilt lettering Sixth edition Name of the traveler in ink on front pastedown: "JF Bodwell SS Arabic, Cabin K" A very good and complete coy with all charts and maps 437 pp pp.

Ohio: N.P., 1816. Broadside. Partially printed and field out in ink. A bond for any unpaid taxes owed the federal government under the act of Dec. 21, 1814 "to provide additional revenue for defraying the expenses of government by laying duties on spirits distilled within the U.S". The dense body of printed text details the myriad requirements placed upon the distiller which only if met will render this obligation void. Like many others who were affected by the post-war slump, calls to militia service, fires, and what not, Baldridge failed to pay his distillery taxes. Ogden's History of Champaign County Ohio describes the distillery in Goshen Township Ohio as "quite a place of resort". A good and early Ohio document.

Fair condition with much of the spine gone, boards almost detached, and a book plate has been removed from the front pastedown Housed in a box with leather spine First edition While Bancroft is best known as a historian, this is his first book and his only volume of poetry With signature of Caleb Cushing on the front free end paper- a wonderful association as Cushing and Bancroft graduated from Harvard together in 1817 Scarce with no other copies currently available [iv], [1]-77 pp pp.

Sabbathday Lake: The United Society of Shakers, 1937. Broadside or handbill. Light creasing and lower left edge is chipped. This was distributed when Shaker Sisters sold fancy work at New England hotels. This is the Scarcer version with "Sabbathday Lake, Me." stamped in the corner. Ericson, 512.

Cambridge: The M.I.T. Press, 1965. 245 pp. In very good condition with a clipped and lightly soiled jacket.

Wallingford, Conn: Wallingford Printing Company, 1875. 330 pp. Boards damp stained. In his preface the author describes how in 1864 he came to write a series of articles on his adventures walking for a local newspaper. He points to Thoreau works as a major influence on his life and writings. Quite scarce with copies at the British Library, AAS and the New York Public Library.

[6] pp. This in very good condition with folds and a bit of framing tape on the top edges. Barton writes to friends who helped care for the grounds of her estate. She describes her gardening and encloses $5.00 for the work done. She ends the letter by mentioning that her hired house maids had left her employ.

Philadelphia: J. B. Lippincott Company, 1935. 414 pp. Some cracking and tearing to the dust jacket. Some fading and markings as well. Huey Long was a politician from Louisiana who had tumultuous terms as the Governor and U.S. Senator in the late 1920's into the early 1930's. Long would be killed by the son in law of a political opponent in the Louisiana Capitol in 1935.

[Johnstown, Pa.], 1883. Good with wear to the binding and the interior has toning and minor stains Beam was a leading member of the Eclectic medicine tradition which grew out of the earlier Thompsonian medical tradition Beam was instrumental in fighting an 1889 Pennsylvania bill that would have made the practice eclectic medicine difficult in the state Sadly, Beam died later that year in the Johnstown flood 33 pp pp.

ALS Egbert Benson (1746-1833). Revolutionary War patriot, lawyer and member of the Continental Congress. New York Attorney General, Congressman and judge. Letter dated Albany 1799 to Captain Sands informing him that he has sent a saddle of mutton and asks that he invite his brother to dinner to enjoy it. This letter includes the address leaf.

London: Longmans, Green, and Co, 1865. 3 volumes. 3/4 leather with marbled paper covered boards. Light rubbing and wear to the binding. Interior good with foxing. A good gathering of the papers of this British woman writer.

1804. Clement Biddle (1740-1814) Revolutionary War officer and merchant. Participated at battles of Trenton, Princeton, Brandywine and Portsmouth. Aide-de-Camp to General Green; Commissary General of forage, 1777. Close friend of Washington, with whom he spent the Winter at Valley Forge. Letter dated 1804 Re: dividend of North American Bank with postmarked address leaf.

1839. ALS to Rev. W. B. Sprague. Good condition with minor stains. The letter is dated January 11, 1839, and concerns the forwarding of letters between the two men. Birney's autograph is scarce.

Philadelphia: M.D. Swisher, Publisher, 1880. 4 pp. Below the imprint: "Kurzenknaube & Songs' Music Room. 2308 N. Third St., Harrisburg, Pa. Two page piano score. Good condition with light wear and soiling to the edges. Apparently unrecorded. With a striking lithographic pictorial cover depicting costumed Siberian peasants, two gossiping, one returning from the hunt, another in a sled pulled by a reindeer bedecked with an ornate blanket. The composer calls himself a nihilist prisoner but we can find no record of him. Unrecorded.
