As the Library of Congress listing explains: "John Baily was an Englishman who lived for many years in Central America. He was employed in 1837-38 by the government of Nicaragua to survey a potential canal route from the Caribbean Sea to the Pacific Ocean. In 1850 Baily published this book and a separate map of Central America that showed four proposed routes for an isthmian canal ... The chapter devoted to Nicaragua is by far the longest and contains a detailed discussion of the proposed route for an inter-oceanic canal through the country." This offering is for the book only. It does NOT include the map, which was published separately. The book does include all three "views" of various places in Central America.

Cover corners tipped and worn; cover has some scratches and fading but title letters remaind bright. Former owner's Peking address printed in ink on first paste-down page. Interior pages clean; binding tight.

"American Sporting Books Series" describes the publications of many outdoor publishing houses. Among those listed are Outing, Forest and Stream, A. R. Harding, Angler's Club of New York, Boone and Crockett, A. S. Barnes, Wildlife Management Institute, Greenberg, D. Van Norstrand, Abercrombie and Fitch, National Sporting Fraternity, Amwell Press, Freshet Press, George Bird Evans and Old Hemlock, Premier Press, Meadow Run Press, and Safari Press. The first 289 copies of this limited edition were numbered and signed by the author. This is No. 88. Book, still in tissue guard, appears unread. There is a hazy dark mark on the back of the slip case (see photos). Otherwise, slipcase and book are in handsome shape.

This 1885 reprint from T. B. Peterson and Brothers is rebound (half binding of dark brown leather with light brown cloth). Illustrations supplied in facsimilie. Binding tight. Note in light pencil on first free fly leaf details binding and illustrations. These "bandittis" were criminal gangs that terrorized the states of Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio and the territory of Iowa in the early to mid-19th century. The author, Edward Bonney (1807-1864) led a full life as an adventurer, miller, hotel keeper, city planner, counterfeiter, livery stable keeper, bounty hunter, private detective, postmaster, merchant, soldier. "Banditti of the Prairie" is his best known work and details his undercover effort to expose the killers of Colonel George Davenport.

This handsome copy is in very good condition. Pages and the dust jacket are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting; and the spine is undamaged. This is not an ex-library book.

Second American printing of a classic Bunyan text, which was first published in London in 1688. Size: 5.25 by 4.25 by .75 inches; 176 pages. Heavily worn calf binding, interior heavily foxed throughout but appears to be complete. Possibly contemporary owner's signature inside back cover.
