Description:
New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1929. First English language edition. 213 pp. Smooth deep orange cloth, lettered and decorated in black. Some rubbing to edges and corners, interior clean. The rare dust jacket is not present. The first appearance in English of Babel's legendary stories, based on his experiences with the 1st Cavalry Army during the Polish-Soviet War of 1920. Translated by Nadia Helstein. This translation (an identical translation published by Knopf in London in 1929 is attributed to John Harland) was later described as "abounding in errors" and "generally an inadequate rendering." It is, however, the first and one of the only collections of Babel's work to be published in English in his lifetime.

Description:
New York: Lorenz Gude/Ted Berrigan, 1966. First edition. 31 pp. Side-stapled tall (legal-sized) mimeographed wrappers. Slight toning to extremities, last leaf detached from two of three staples. Much better than usually seen. One of the most important mimeo magazines of the 1960s, and a crucial link between the first and second generations of the New York School poets. Richard Hell called C "the greatest literary magazine of the twentieth century... you could extrapolate everything worthwhile in the universe from its thirteen issues, and you'd have a great time, giggling." Originally a vehicle for the Tulsa core of Berrigan, Ron Padgett, Dick Gallup and Joe Brainard, this issue includes contributions by Stephane Mallarme, Pierre Reverdy, William Saroyan, Harry Mathews, Kenward Elmslie and others. Cover by Joe Brainard. Clay & Phillips, pp. 160-65.
