Accordion fold with covers lettered and illustrated in aqua, orange, silver, and black; 12 panels in full-color, illustrating performers of all kinds, including singers, clowns, and quite a lot of semi-nude ladies. Rear cover detached and chipped; front cover rubbed and a bit worn along the edges. Internally nice and bright.

[London]: Punch [Bradbury and Evans], 1847-8. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good+. Complete set of 2 volumes. Lovely dark brown gilt-ruled morocco and blue marbled paper, gilt-stamped lettering and detail in compartmented spine, all edges gilt. Each volume complete with 10 hand-colored etchings (20 total), as well as numerous woodcuts in text. Joints a bit scuffed; corners lightly bumped; otherwise a simply lovely set.

London: S. Bladon, 1779-1781. Hardcover. Very Good+. Contemporary speckled calf, gilt-ruled spine, gilt-stamped lettering in red leather spine label; 5 volumes, 8vo; with 22 engraved plates. Publication dates and plate counts for individual volumes are as follows: I (1781, 8 plates), II (1780, 4 plates), III (1779, 6 plates), IV (1780, 1 plate), V (1780, 3 plates). Two more volumes were issued later. Spines a little dry; some light scuffing and bumping on boards and spines; thin cracks at joints, but holding just fine. Text blocks are nice and clean. File it under law, file it under humor, file it under erotica -- the plates indulge in portraying adulterous couples in flagrante delicto. The title says it all.

Published at the Governing Senate, 1917. Paperback. Good+. Folded sheets, sometimes in two gatherings. The paper is brittle, sometimes with large chips eliminating text -- but overall legible and satisfactory. The collection includes: Numbers 151-155, 158-181, 183(x2)-186, 193-198, 200 (x2), 202, 205-214, 217-221, 224, published 1 July - 15 September, 1917. A total of 58 issues, very rare. The October Revolution is said to have begun with the storming of the provisional government's Winter Palace on 25 October 1917, according to the pre-Revolutionary calendar, which lagged behind the Western calendar by 2 weeks. 25 October corresponds to 7 November in the post-Revolution calendar, tho all Russian religious holidays still lag 2 weeks behind their Western counterparts.

Boards scuffed and a little soiled; spine tips and corners lightly bumped and chipped. Text block foxed.

Inscribed by the author to the renowned singer and civil rights activist, Lena Horne: “To Lena, Having you in our home was a special treat! We love you! Hank Aaron and Billye 12-29-91.” The inscription, save for Hank’s signature, is in Billye’s hand.

Contemporary morocco, boards ruled in gilt, rebacked, with original backstrip laid down (5 gult-ruled raised bands, otherwise unadorned); 8vo; pp. [lx], 339, [5] (ads). Boards a bit scuffed; NOT the most subtle rebacking this cataloguer has ever seen. First and last few leaves a bit browned, mostly along the edges; contemporary ownership and library markings (discreet) on FFEP and title-p.; library bookplates on front paste-down; small chip out of the center final leaf (ad), affecting the text. Etienne Condillac is remembered as an important psychologist, and he also helped establish the principles of Locke for a French audience. (Locke, prior to Condillac, had previously benefited from the attention of Voltaire, but in a less systematic manner.) Thomas Nugent was a prolific translator and travel writer.

Spines sunned; boards lightly rubbed; corners a little scuffed. Internally bright and clean, with plates in excellent condition, colors remain true. Speckled calf, gilt-stamped ornament on spine; 4to; with copper-engraved title-page and 67 copper-engraved plates (1 of them lightly colored). Very rare work illustrating various human follies and obsessions, according to Bertsche not by Santa Clara, although that's the general assumption. Title-page and 1 plate professionally restored; some plates neatly repaired with tape or reinforced with paper on the verso; occasional marginal chip or tear (infringing upon the image itself in just 2 instances); 2 plates with marginal ink doodles.

A native of Cento, Alberto Accarisi was a well-known Doctor of Law, philologist and one of the first scholars of Italian vocabulary and grammar. This is Accarisi’s second edition of the Vocabulario; his first was self-published in Cento in 1543.
