Seven Pre-Reformation Eucharistic Liturgies by Marion J. Hatchett

This book is in very good condition. There is minimal wear on the front, back, and spine of the cover boards. There is minimal wear on the edges of the cover boards also, and the corners are slightly bumped. The pages are yellowed and tanned, but they are clean of any markings. "A significant part of the liturgics curriculum at the School of Theology, Sewanee, has been the preparation for and participation in certain key historic Eucharistic rites which are basic to an understanding of the development of the rites of the Book of Common Prayer and of Services for Trial Use . Some of these from among the Pre-Reformation rites have not been available in a form adapted for actual use. Since use at St. Luke's, some have been used in other situations. Almost all could be said to come within the bounds prescribed by "An Order for Celebrating the Holy Eucharist" of Services for Trial Use if the Eucharistic Prayer is adapted to the "D" form of that Order...." - Seven Pre-Reformation Eucharistic Liturgies

    Translating Tradition by Jeffery, Peter

In this book, a chant historian reads Liturgiam Authenticam .  Peter Jeffery provides an extensive study of this important document, section by section.  Father Michael Joncas has recommened Translating Tradition as one of the best commentaries on the document.  Bryan Spinks says that "this book is crucial reading for those concerned with Western liturgical evolution and the possible course of future revision."  Maxwell Johnson says that "Peter Jeffery has provided us with a superb and much needed analysis of the controverisal document, Liturgiam Authenticam .  This [book] should be required reading for all who seek a balanced approachto the questions . . . arising from the translation of liturgical texts." Gabrielle Winkler has praised the author as a scholar of outstanding merit.  From 1993 to 2010, he has been the Scheide Professor of Music History at Princeton University, where he received his doctorate in 1980.

An increased spirit of brotherhood, predicated on a clearer concept of the religious beliefs of others could well result in a new appreciation of their tenets, thereby creating an attitude of respect which is frequently lacking today both in business and in political contacts...." - Foreword from Days And Customs Of All Faiths

Liturgy and Doctrine by Davis, Charles

Excellent introduction to the central themes of the 20th century liturgical movement, before the Second Vatican Council. The chapters are originally articles from The Clergy Review , published in England. Well written, clear, and concise. Though the pages have yellowed with age, the book is in good condition. "a genuine theological work of real of the most refreshing books I have read in years." --Father Laurence Bright, O.P., Life of the Spirit " excellent book, probably the best short account in English of the central role of the liturgy in Christian life." --Father Austin Flannery, O.P., Doctrine and Life . "...this brief but pregnant study of the theology of the liturgy is the most important that has ever appeared." --Father J.D. Crichton, Liturgy .

"Since the promulgation of the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy of the Second Vatican Council, all of us have experienced the first steps toward a renewal of the liturgy of the Church. We see clearly now that this liturgical renewal cannot be a matter of texts and rubrics only; the heart of this renewal is prayer. And the key to renewing the prayer of the Sunday assembly is rekindling a love for and practice of prayer in the hearts of those who make up the Church. Prayer must happen in the 'little churches' - the households, the families - if the Sunday assembly is to become a community of prayer. The Council taught that the liturgy 'is the primary and indispensable source from which the faithful are to derive the true Christian spirit' (Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, 14) How can that spirit come to fill and give shape to our lives unless it is there in the prayers of individuals and families?..." - Foreword from Catholic Household Blessings And Prayers

"Most of the objections urged by the Dissenters against the Church of England, to justify their separation from it, being levelled against its form and manner of divine worship, prescribed in the Book of Common Prayer , &c., are, in the following Discourse, answered, as fully as its brevity would permit. So that, though the principal design of this book be to instruct such as are friends to our Church and Liturgy; yet it is not impossible but that, by the blessing of God, it may in some measure contribute to the undeceiving some that are enemies to both, (such I mean as are disaffected to the former, upon no other account, than a prejudice to the latter;) especially could we, by first convincing them of the Liturgies in general, prevail with them to take an impartial view of what is here offered in behalf of our own. To this end therefore, and to make the following sheets of as genera luse as I can, I shall, by way of Introduction, endeavor to prove these three things; viz." - A Rational Illustration Of The Book Of Common Prayer Of The Church Of England

    Peoples Mass Book

This book is in very good condition. There is some wear on the front, back, edges, and spine of the cover boards. There is some fraying on the cover boards. The pages are white, crisp, and clear of any markings. "This section of the book gives the user all the material which he needs to participate fully in the celebration of the Eucharistic Liturgy. The proper chants are printed in full so that they can be chanted or recited. The community should listen to the official proclamation of the message by the celebrant or reader and the prayers of the priest. A helpful but short commentary on the theme is often arbitrary since many celebrations just do not have a central idea. Whereas some of the readings were deliberately combined to develop a theme, other arrangements of Epistles and Gospels have been so shuffled through the centuries that there is little natural relationship between them. The commentary given here is a possible way of interpreting the readings around one point of meditation and instruction...." - Introduction To The Proper Section from Peoples Mass Book

The Liturgy for the Celebration of the Holy Eucharist and the Administration of Holy Communion: 1953, The Liturgy of the Lord's Supper The Celebration of Holy Eucharist and Ministration of Holy Communion: 1966, The Holy Eucharist The Liturgy for the Proclamation of the Word of God and Celebration of the Holy Communion with options authorized in 1973

In fact, any information about the book lies within its contents and is separated by dividers by years. There is no title for this book other than the one I have ascribed based on the content. My assumption is this was compiled by an Anglican priest and bound.

Days of the Lord by Cardinal Danneels Godfried

This book is in very good condition. There is some wear on the front, back, spine and edges of the covers. There is no bumping or fraying on the covers, however, there are bent edges on the covers and pages. The pages are crisp, white, and clear of any markings. "Typically, "the liturgical year" calls to mind only the Christian calendar of Sundays and feasts that, instead of beginning on January 1 and ending December 31st, goes from the first Sunday of Advent to the Saturday at the end of the thirty-fourth week of Ordinary Time. This deviation from the common secular calendar does not create a real problem. One reason is that we are used to other, similar deviations, particularly those of the school year. Another is that Christmas is the only date one needs to know in order to determine the date of the first of the four Sundays of Advent. However, this first, superficial picture of a simple, annual schedule of Christian celebrations is not enough to fully appreciate the profound reality of the liturgical year and all its values. We must begin, therefore, with a certain understanding of time...." - Chapter One from Days of the Lord: The Liturgical Year - Volume 1: Advent, Christmas, Epiphany
