Carl is an African American expatriate in love with an idealistic medico who has been kidnapped by child soldiers. The rescuer recruits the aid of a smuggler and a thief.

New York: Harper & Row, Publishers, 1971. xxii, 249p., photo section, first American edition cloth boards in glossy dj, near-fine all around. Not the author's first book on Liberia. Fulbright's 3p intro acknowledges Wilson as a peer; they grew up in the same Arkansas town at the same time and they kept in touch, and JWF relates that Wilson feels this is his best book to date.
