Interview with Paul Ryan of Yare Books

What drew you to bookselling?
I have always loved books and reading, Spending evenings reading in my accountancy office whilst waiting for my boys who were all at cadets, I kept running out of books, so I started buying boxes of books at the auction rooms next door. One dat tge auctioneer asked what I did with all the books that I did not read, so I opened the door of a spare office that I had them all stored in. At that time Ebay was in its infancy and he was using it to sell more unusual items to a wider audience and suggested I listed the books I didn't want on there to get my money back and so a business was born
Did you have any mentors in becoming a bookseller?
Garry Emmss of Great Yarmouth Auctions
What's the most amazing book you've ever sold?
In 2015 we sold a book to a 97 year old lady who wanted a copy because it reminded her of her now dead friend. She got a friend to order it and there were two copies for sale ours and one other. They chose to order from us. This morning it arrived and the lady who arranged the order telephoned me to say they had opened the book and inscribed on the flyleaf was "To Missy from Marion" it was the book the 97 year old lady had given her friend in 1942 and It has made her so happy
