Fine.One of Douglas Fairbanks' best roles and one of the most memorable silent films which set the standard for all pirate epics to follow. Story of a nobleman who vows to avenge his father's death by the hands of pirates. He infiltrates their band and becomes known as the black pirate. Dove appears at left with Fairbanks, and a sword duel is presented within the shape of the pirate ship behind. The star, the title, and the fact that it is ""Photographed in Technicolor"" is all that is needed to promote this epic.

Warren Kerrigan was a movie star while filmmaking was still in its infancy, having made his screen debut in 1910. He was also the first queer American movie star. He made over 380 films, most of them short subjects back in the beginning of his career. Although he regularly played heroic, "manly" roles, he was in real life somewhat different from the characters he played. "The perfumed, effeminate J. Warren Kerrigan posed as a fast-shooting, buckskin-wearing cowboy." (Mann, p.1) Portrait of Kerrigan, then at the height of his fame as a star in the nascent Hollywood silent film industry, with personalized sentiments to a person named Earl G. Reed, and with notes on the verso written by Reed, who was apparently a Los Angeles police officer who came to know many movie stars while on patrol at the corner of Hollywood and Vine.

On linen, there was some fold line separation, especially at edge borders, there has been some minor inpainting in the area of the words "MY" and "LIPS", but poster has extraordinary, bright, original colors, near fine.An extremely rare poster and one of the earliest to feature star Clara Bow prominently. Long believed to be a lost film, a nitrate print was found and has been preserved. The film is a romance with a suspense twist in which William Powell plays the debonair character he became famous for and Clara Bow as the ultimate jazz baby.

It earned ten million dollars during it's initial release ($300 million in today's dollars) and is famous for the torrid tango scene, but the film is much more. It is the story of the devastation of the Great War (having just ended in 1918) on the people of Argentina. The film was masterfully directed by Ingram (who would marry leading lady Alice Terry at the end of filming). Valentino paid for much of his wardrobe used in the film, and made so little money for his role that he spent the next year paying off his wardrobe bill. Fortunately he would soon be paid better.
