Paramount. No binding. About Fine. [Los Angeles: Paramount, 1932]. Vintage original 8 x 10" (20 x 25 cm.) black-and-white glossy silver gelatin photo. There are light signs of use at blank corners, about fine.
Marlene Dietrich was the true writer of the screenplay for this opus which took her from wealth to ruin to rags to fame to wealth again. The censors crossed out so much of her material (even in the pre-Code period) that by the time a final script was approved, she and director/mentor Joseph von Sternberg had little interest in making the film. They came through, though, with a brilliant odyssey highlighted by Dietrich in many moods, all behind heavy diffusion.
Here is Dietrich as the down-and-out vagrant Helen Faraday, with Sidney Toler as the detective on her trail. Photo coded 1385-87.

Warner Brothers, First National. No binding. Very Good. [Los Angeles: Warner Brothers-First National, 1933]. Vintage original 8 x 10"" (20 x 25 cm.) black-and-white glossy silver gelatin photo. Small tear at right-side blank white margin and minor edge wear. Reinforced with brown tape at the edges on three sides of verso, very good. Mary Astor is sassy and classy as she displays her jewels, including a very contemporary pair of dangling earrings in a portrait for this now legendary lost film. So scandalized were the censors at the provocativeness of this pre-Code film that the legion of decency condemned it. In fact, it may not have been seen much past its Dec. 1933 release. It could never be reissued and Warners junked the negative in 1948, but it is not certain that all 500 initial prints were destroyed. The story… Read More

No binding. Fine. Fine Art Print Vintage original 11 x 14"" (28 x 35 cm.) lobby card, USA. Clara Bow, Jean Arthur, James Hall, Edna May Oliver, Charles Sellon, Jean Harlow, dir: A. Edward Sutherland; Paramount. A few pinholes, fine.A great glimpse into life of the late-1920s, this early talkie left behind the typical Bow character and presented her in a subdued role. It is the story of two sisters who work as salesgirls in a department store. The younger sister is played by Jean Arthur in a very early lead role, she the unsympathetic character who stabs her sister in the back. Both girls are in love with the same store clerk. Clara again appeared with James Hall as her leading man, and he is with her in this fantastically colored card.
