St. Petersburg : Depot Topographique Militaire De L' Etat Major Imperial, 1818. Near fine 2 sheet, 48 panel b&w linen backed map, detailing the European portion of the Russian Empire during this portion of the Napoleonic Era. Copies of the 1818 edition may be found online via COPAC at the British Library, and University College of London. The general area stretches from the White Sea in the north to the Black Sea in the south, and the Baltic in the west to the Caspian in the east. It is quite detailed with waterways, railroads, postal stations, roads, vilages, and major geographical divisions. This is quite an uncommon item (those listed online appear mostly to note the northern sheet), with each of the two images measuring approximately 22 x 46 inches (i.e. the whole item is 44 x 46 inches, together). This foldis into a colorful linen covered card case (decent condition, but upper inner flap is loose) measuring 8 x 6 inches, with an early handwritten title label neatly in place. Description:
London: Crossthwaite, 1809. Originally issued in 1783 (with fewer maps than this more recent issue), these sets of English lake country maps are increasingly scarce. They are all b&w copperplate engravings as issued. Six of the seven are folded, with mild dampstains at lateral folds where they met the front fore-edge. No image loss, foxing or molding; the distraction is not severe, and the paper quality is excellent. Images average 8x15.5 inches, with many surrounding vignettes and added historical and geographical notes (part of plate) present. These are all tipped-in individually. An early owners signature is penned neatly on the original front end-paper, and a later armorial bookplate (James Chaigneau Colvill, 1936) appears on the front pastedown. Leather gilt-lettered spine a bit chipped, but legible ("Crossthwaites Maps"), with colorful cloth boards slightly dampstained at edge, anad a bit rubbed. Binding is as a large 8vo.. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Description:
Stockholm: Carl Af Forsell , 1826. Scarce, extraordinary 8 map set in 4 boxes. The fully hand colored (original). Each map has 12 panel, and several are quite striking. There are 2 maps to a box (sometimes tight). The linen backed maps are generally near fine, but the original boxes (with orignal labels) are chipped, several with marked edgewear and a few external areas rubbed off. The topographical and waterway details are hard to describe. A few copies are listed online via the KVK catalogue. This includes most of Scandinavia, with some focus on Sweden and Norway. This would make quite an item for a scholar or collector of Scandinavian material. Each box measures 9x9 inches. Each of the 8 map images is approximately 24.5x32.5 inches (62x83 cm)..
