Paris: D'Anville, 1755. Very good, b &w, as issued. Each of the 4 images (centerfolds as issued) measures about 18.5x22 inches. This set is a significant map in the 18th century history of North America , and is the French "cartographic answer" to Mitchell's map of this region, issued earlier in the same year.. One of the sheets is a chart of the St. Lawrence River. The areas of the Great Lakes is quite elaborate, and there are many Native American regions designated. There are 5 separate scales. There are nice images of Acadie and Newfoundland. Slight marginal chipping to sheet with eastern USA coast.This is a very scarce set, from one of the finest cartographers of the European enlightenment. Washington DC: US Senate, 31st Congress, 1st Session, Ex. Doc. No. 12, 1850. This is the full map set plus the intact 25 pp report. The maps are all VG to fine condition. The report has been recased in cloth (VG+), with new enpapers and a nice map pocket at the rear, helping to preserve this increasingly scarce document. The original manuscript drawings are preserved in the National Archives (see entry #640, p. 286, vol. 3 of Wheat's "Mapping the Trans-Mississippi West..."). All 11 small sheets of text are present in the form of a folded brochure, with the verso containing the full printed color map as described in the title, with image measuring 18 x 22 inches. Several small b&w images are in the text, and the map itelsf has mulitple images including elevations and numerous other details. The cover of the brochure is also in cover, with an image of Balboa, with the Panamania crest at the back. Detailed canal statistics are inside the front cover. The brochure itself measures roughly 9 x 4.25 inches, and is overall in very good conditioin with no major flaws..

Chicago: Rand McNally & Co.. Generally good with full printed color. A small (2 inch by 1inch) section of southern Australia is missing. There is some browning. This is an ENORMOUS folding wall map, bound into a cloth 8vo binder (some rubbing, but overall sound) There are few pencil marks on the map, but none is a serious visual distraction (this item is too large for me to send a digital image). The map is linen backed, consisting of 28 separate panels each mounted individually. The precise date (early to mid 20th century) is not shown, but Thailand is Siam and Sri Lank is Ceylon on this map. There are large metal rings to hang the map. The entire image measures about 38x58 inches. This is an impressive world map. .
