New York: Julius Bien & Co. Lith., 1892. Two color printed sheets, sold as a set, from this important civil war atlas. Exquisitely specific detail on the data used for compilation, topographical info., positions of Union and Confederate works, local buildings, roads, numerous buildings and general landmarks. "Accompanying the report of Maj. Gen. George B. McClellan, U.S. Army Series 1 Vol. 5 Page 5...." Both sheets VG w/minimal browning and slightly chipped margins w/ a few small marginal tears. Sheet 1 (Plate VII) has a stain, mainly affecting verso, upper left. Each sheet is 41x69cm. The above date is approximate.. First Edition Thus.

The American Friends of Lafayette , 1972. Interior excellent; green paper covers mildly soiled and worn, especially at edges (but intact). There were 500 copies of this printed by Princeton University Press and The Meriden Gravure Company, half of which bore the Princeton library imprint, the other half the imprint of The Friends of Lafayette. Inside front cover inscribed to original owner. The facsimile map image measures 12x17 inches, with fold as issued, and was hand colored (full tone collotype). It is an exact rreplica of the map from the Princeton University Library. The accompanying 10 page monograph details the history surrounding the map and its maker. Chinard was a pressor of French Literature at Princeton, Albion was also at Princeton (and a recognized authority in maritime and naval history), and Brown was the map curator at the William L. Clements Library. This is a very nice offering. . Limited. Folio - over 12" - 15" tall.

New York: Ethyl Corporation, 1953. Facsimile of this famous map, in fine condition, on heavy paper, with folds as issued. This map measures 26x19 inches, and is folded into red linen boards, and then in a red slipcase with a leather spine, respectively in fine and very good condition. This was an important map in the history of oil exploration, and ths reproduction comes 22 page prospectus, also in fine condition, with the history behind the map. A very nice reproduction of an important map. .

St. Louis: Woodward &Tiernan Printing Co., 1910. Uncommon folding, pocket, railroad map on heavy paper, near fine condition, with image measuring 25x28 inches. There is an inset of "Map Showing St. Louis and Vicinity" in the upper right corner. Original printed color, all counties listed, with over 50 regional railway lines color-coded on the map. The cloth boards bear a neat owners signature on the front, gilt lettering ("Railroad Commissioners Map of Missouri 1910"); they are a bit soiled, but intact. .

Princeton (NJ): Princeton University Press, 1958. Eleven inch 4to, very good, with good DJ (few chips at spine ends of DJ only). Binding tight. 1x, 275 pp with index and map list. This is the first edition of this classic. Owner's signature dated 1958, in ink, on front pastedown. This is a hard-to-find item as a first edition, and is a classic in the history of cartography of the region. The list begins with the 1544 De Soto map, and ends in 1775 with the Fry-Jefferson and Mouzon maps.. First Edition.

Charlottesville: University of Virginia Press , 1977. Fourteen inch folio in orginal brown, gilt-lettered slipcase, produced as a limited (unnumbered) edition of 500. Wright's introduction is nicely referenced, and the four loose maps sheets are all present. In spite of numerous criticisms (including those of Thomas Pownall), this is a major piece of Virginia cartographic history, as it was the first map to show the county boundaries within the state. Henry (Patrick Henry's father) was hoping his efforts would provide a greater monetary reward than they did, but the bad press dashed those hopes.Still, the map provided important social and economic information, and its deficiencies are perhaps no more severe than other contemporary maps. This is an uncommon facsimile production, in excellent condition (the interior has seen very little use, and the slipcase is remarkably clean, with only slight fading towards the open end).. Limited.
