Greased Line Fishing For Salmon: Compiled From The Fishing Papers Of The Late A.H.E. Wood Of Glassel

By Jock Scott

London: Seely Service & Co, 1950. Fourth Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/near fine. Lightest shelf wear to the book and priced jacket, previoous owner's name to the front endpaper else clean and unmarked. Fourth edition in a jacket which states fifth edition. The publisher seems to have made a practice of this method of identification, a jacket with edition a year in advance of the book. Probably to save money on jacket printing as they could be used for two editions. "Arthur Wood was an engineer by training and had a passionate, and developing interest in salmon fishing: in the eyes of the fishing community, he is credited with proving the value of greased line tactics. Greased-line develops the concept that, as water temperature rises, salmon prefer to rise from their rest on the bottom of the river to take flies presented on, or close to, the surface. As fishers we now relish, and the heart stops, when we see a boil on the top of the water."-Cairnton Beat. Cairnton was the estate near Glassel where Wood held a fishing lease from 1918 to his death in 1934. Every effort is made to ship all books and other items within 24 hours. One of his more memorable performances occurred on a 1966 regular season game against the New York Giants, where he scored two defensive touchdowns: a 62-yard interception return and a 62-yard fumble return. Washington ended up winning the game 72–41. To this day it is the highest scoring game in NFL history.
