London, U.K.: Cambridge University Press, 1961. Classic scarce scholarly text is the first full-length book in English on Sallust, a well known Roman historian and politician, for more than one hundred years. Contents include: the political theory: the prologues; "virtus" as an aristocratic ideal; Sallust's concept of "virtus"; the moral crisis in Sallust's view; the "Jugurthine War"; the "Catilinarian Conspiracy"; the "Historiae"; conclusion. 132 pgs.
