The Corsair. A Tale.
Warsaw, Rambler Press, 2023
The Corsair (1814) is a long tale in verse written by Lord Byron and published by John Murray in London. It was extremely popular, selling ten thousand copies on its first day of sale, and was influential throughout the following century, inspiring operas, music and ballet.
The poetry, divided into cantos, narrates the story of the corsair or privateer Conrad. It says that in his youth he was rejected by society because of his acts and his later war against humanity. The long poem was adapted for or inspired numerous other works in a variety of genres: Many Americans believed that the poem was based on the life of the pirate Jean Lafitte.

Lyrical Ballads with other PoemsWilliam WordsworthA HANDSOMELY BOUND COPYLyrical Ballads, with a Few Other Poems is a collection of poems by William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge, first published in 1798 and generally considered to have marked the beginning of the English Romantic movement in literature. It became and remains a landmark, changing the course of English literature. Most of the poems in the 1798 edition were written by Wordsworth, with Coleridge contributing only four poems to the collection (although these made about a third of the book in length), including one of his most famous works, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. A second edition was published in 1800, in which Wordsworth included additional poems and a preface detailing the pair's avowed poetical principles.DESCRIPTIONSet in Monotype Bell on cotton Century Laid paper in an edition of 25 copies (this is no 3).
