About This Item
Alberta, Canada: Bancroft Women's Institute. Good. 1961. First Edition. Hardcover. Bancroft is the name of Alberta school district 1362, located east of Carstairs. "On these pages you will find the record of the folks who made Bancroft district the fine place it is. Some ranched, some homesteaded, others taught school, young ministers rode horseback to bring church services. Some stayed, some left, but all had a part in shaping this community. As many as possible of the stories [in this book] have been written by the pioneers themselves or their families. We felt a short summary of the towns was part of the story because they have contributed to the development of the district. Of course Sterlingville is mentioned many times because it was the centre of business in the early years." - Foreword. 276 pages. Printed upon glossy stock. Consists primarily of detailed personal and family histories. Occasional black and white reproductions of archival photos. Unmarked with average wear to original burgundy cloth. Binding intact. Laid-in is a four-page list of the people and businesses who sponsored this publication. A sound copy of this informative local history and invaluable genealogical reference. Strathern 2863, Krotki (2nd Edn) 43. ; B&W Illustrations; 4to .
