Book. Very Good. Hardcover. The 124th Rifle Minsko-Khingan Red Banner Order of the Suvorov Division is a military unit of the Red Army in the Great Patriotic War(WWll). The division was formed on April 19, 1943 and fought on the Leningrad Front, in Finland where they suffered very heavy losses, Cologne and Kaliningrad. In June 1945, they transferred to the East, where participated in the liberation of the Chinese city of Solun. The division served until Sept. 3, 1945. The commemorative album is 8.5 x 11.5 inches. 15 leaves with 18 mounted photos (9x7 inches) and a few portraits laid in. The album dates from 1983. Nice. .

Snapshots of service men- guys goofing around, having fun/ in uniform with weapons/ men carrying packs approaching a battleship/ tents, barracks, thatched huts, small boats/ photos taken over military base/ cemeteries. Sveiven gathered his fellow GI's autographs and quips in this 7"x 4" album. Sveiven kept stamps here too; he collected some during the war and added others after he returned home). Inside cover: Property of Joseph Sveiven, Casablanca, Africa, Wed. Dec VIII 1943. Notes written by friends refer to Joseph Sveiven as 'Cap'. WW2 Soldier's field-book has 37 pp. - Sveiven's own entries/ autographs, sentiments & quips by Sveiven's fellow soldiers/ postage stamps. Joseph Sveiven wrote: "leaving Mt. Snelling on June 3,1943 to Camp Kilmer, NJ; leaving June 13th for Africa; saw submarines on June 15th (no damage done), a submarine attack in June 22nd (it was sunk), sailing 300 miles off course to avoid more German U-Boats.  Arrived at Oran, Morocco on July 5th. From 1990 to 1991 during the first Persian Gulf War - codenamed Desert Shield and Desert Storm - An American-led coalition Invaded Iraq to secure western interests in the middle east. Berg relaxing in San Bernardino, CA before shipping out to Patterson Field, OH for bivouac and training into 1943.While at Patterson Lt. Berg has snaps of the mess tent, guys playing and working, practice ariel strafing, the Officer's Mess, chapel choir pics....Next on to Oran- NW coastal Algeria where we see a series of small portraits of other men in Berg's Company We're now into 1944 and Lt. Berg has left North Africa, and we see him in Naples, Pompeii, Nancy, Capri, Marseilles; now on to Palestine Lt. Berg was attached to the 15th Depot & Supply Squadron 1942-1944, and did a lot of travelling. 150+ photographs, 1x2, 2x4, 3x5, 4x6 inches. The album is approx. 11.5" x 7.5", and the rear board appears to have been replaced. Overall in nice collectible condition. Domestic s/h $15..

This book is the harrowing account of genocide by Eric Stover, with photographs by Gilles Peress, of how-- from a hell of mud and decomposing bodies-- investigator Haglund began to piece together victims' identities and the terrible ways they died. Over 40,000 Muslim refugees were living in and around Srebenica when it fell to the Serbs, under General Ratko Mladic in July 1995. Of the men who fled, or were rounded up by Serb troops, many were never seen again. Stover talks to the surviving families, women and children, including the women of Srebrenica still clinging to the hope that their men are alive-- even as Haglund's investigations prove otherwise. The front of the album is marked 'Commanding Officer VXE-6'. There are approx 55 photos [ 5x7 - 11x14 inches], together with newspaper clippings of VXE-6's deployment to Antarctica, and its rescue mission of downed Russian pilots. One photo labeled Operation Deep Freeze is a composite photo of all the men in the Post. Also a phograph inscribed to Commander Morgan signed by W. Graham Clayton Jr, Secretary of the Navy December 1978. There are 16 large photos measuring 14" x 11" loose in the back showing planes and helicopters, penguins, etc. .
