Manning is a British writer best known for her Fortunes of War series set during World War II, but this book is a travelogue through Ireland. The marginalia is largely critical of Manning’s prose, from her description of the Blarney Stone (“how damn silly can you get? ”) to the O’Shea scandal (“is this supposed to be witty? ”) , but also blasts Pope John XXII, snobs, and the English in general. Two of the photos have other black and white photos pasted over them. ; 202 pages .
