Early pages (title page to preface) missing, text pages appear complete. Contains articles known to have been written by Eliot in the Westminster Review before her pseudonymous fame. Also includes ""Leaves from a Note-Book"" and ""Impressions of Theophrastus Such."" Very worn, especially the backstrip, which shows considerable fraying and is peeling away. Webbing showing on front hinge. Bookworm tunnels in several places along outside margins, but text unaffected. Rear hinge very weak, nearly broken. Binding cracked at center and other places.
