Warsaw: Ksiazka-I-Wiedza, [1950]. No edition stated. 8vo (8 1/4 x 6 inches; 210 x 150 mm), 238 pages, in black boards (hard cover).
A former U.S. intelligence officer maintains the Western powers aren't doing enough to rid Germany of Nazi influence in the immediate aftermath of World War II. He also criticizes anti-Soviet bias of U.S. military and government officials.
CONDITION: A few small ink smudges on preliminary pages, presumably from an ink stamp to the title page. Some light sunning to page edges. The unclipped dust jacket has some edge wear and a few nicks and chips. A Near Fine copy in a Very Good dust jacket.

PHYSICAL DETAILS: Octavo (5 1/2 x 8 3/8 inches; 138 x 214 mm), 48 pages, in stapled wrappers (soft cover).
CONDITION: Edge wear and rubbing to wrappers, bottom right corner of front wrapper creased, resulting in creasing to all subsequent pages, shadow of newsprint once laid between pages 18 and 19 but pamphlet text still easily readable. A nearly Very Good copy.

Text of an address by President Dwight Eisenhower on March 16, 1959, about the growing crisis in Berlin. French text, issued by the U.S. Information Service and the U.S. Embassy in Paris. The Soviets had demanded Western forces pull out of West Berlin, a demand rejected by the U.S., Britain, and France. SIGNED by Lester Cole on a preliminary page. Cole (1904-1985) was a screenwriter and one of the Hollywood Ten, men who refused to answer questions in Congress about their alleged Communist affiliations. The book, sympathetic to the Ten, tells their story. Foreword by Thomas Mann. SCARCE SIGNED.
CONDITION: Some rubbing to boards, very light toning to page edges, light soiling to top and bottom edges. A Very Good copy in an unclipped dust jacket that has some nicks and tears as well as heavy soiling, especially to the rear panel, and fading to spine.
