Philadelph, Chicago, Cincinnati, St. Louis & Atlan: National Publishing Company, 1870. Heavily embelished brown leather bible which states Holy Bible on upper board with family name of A. HEBDEN. Right lower corner has a chunk missing. (see photo) One (brass) clasp is also missing. Back boards duplicate of front except for family name. The inside front and back has been reinforced with tape. The book seems very tight with no loose pages or binding. Gold gilt all page edges. Interior pages are clean and unmarked in very good condition except for a few illustrations mentioned below. First part of book after table of contents has a History of the Translation of the English Bible with scripture illustrations including ancient sandals, The Pyramids of Egypt, and A pillar of salt. Then Animals, birds, instects mentioned in the bible with illustrations; the Tabernacle and Solomon's Temple. and much more. Pages are numbered off and on. Pages are numbered until 576, then starts numbering again a few times with Apocrypa (104 pages) then starts again with the NewTestament at 577 until 768 when it starts with Concordance to the Old and New Testaments to page 41. Then The Psalms of David in Meter start numbering at 1 and ends at 22. Translated out of the original tongues, and with the former translations diligently compared and revised. Embellished with over 200 scripture illustrations. Contains records of the Hebden family's marriages, births, deaths and Memorandii Some of the tissued illustrations have foxing mostly limited to the margin. Also includes an index to the Holy Bible towards end. Many Tables of Scripture measures, weights, and coins. Also an Alphabetical Table of the proper names in the old and new testaments, much more. At the very end there are two full pages of Family Portraits for 4 photos on each side. There are six photos that are present. Back of two photos have Henry Doerr Photographer, Louisville, Ky. Another one says Washburn. Louisville, KY. Please ask for more information and I will be happy to send more photographs to serious buyers. Very heavy book that would require additional postage. .
