Original owner's gift message dated December 1842 on f/ep, portrait frontispiece missing, unfortunately, and next page loose but still present (Note to the Reader and List of Illustrations), some foxing to the b&w illustrations, but otherwise a not too bad, clean copy of this hard-cover book. Letters written by the author from his home in Owego, NY to his friend Dr T Olcutt Porter of New York, along with a collection of poems by the author. Quite a bit of fading to the spine, and minor creasing to the edges of unclipped dustwrapper; minor bumping to spine ends of brown boards, otherwise a good clean tight copy of this small hard-cover book. A collection of thirty-two short essays and stories by the author of "Tarka the Otter", mostly on topics of nature and similar. No publication date shown, but this book (number 347) was first printed in this series in 1916, and this style of binding was stopped in 1934, so sometime between those dates, probably on the earlier side. 325pp..
