About This Item

unpublished Manon Iessel (French 1909-1985) original group of 5 costume illustrations. Includes a folder with flower illustration on the cover (paint) containing (5) costume illustrations, each initialed M.I. lower right hand of mat. Illustrations done in watercolor, metallic silver and gold paint. Beautifully done. Each illustration approximately 7 1/4" x 5 1/2" not including the border mat. Hand written caption on the back of each illustration (not in English) One caption ( Voyer mon surcot borde I'hernine Manon Issel illustrated many novels for youth signed by the Countess of Segur (The Little Girls Models, The Holidays) Mad H. Giraud (The Sir Jerry Detective Series) Marguerite Devin (Tales and Legends of Ancient Egypt, 1933) or Henri Suquet (The Underwater House, `1954). She is also known for her almost exclusive collaboration with T. Trilby, from 1935 to 1961 (Lulu the little king of fairgrounds, 1935 Dadou kid of Paris, 1936 Sparrow and little bookseller, 1936.Madame Carabosse, 1943 En avant, 1948, Princess mimosa, 1949, etc.) also found illustrating in the "Collection Dauphine" (Editions Rouge et Or) a novel by Jacqueline Dumesnil, Marquise en sabots. She also often collaborated with Genevieve Neranval (In the turmoil, 1946, The Merry Clan RT 1947 , Sir mystery, 1949 etc) and Leo Dartey (The master of the island, 1947. The Golden Temple, 1949, The Secret of the Lezardiere, 1957). She illustrated two books on The Tales of Perrault published by Marcus, as well as The Legend of Saint Nicolas at Desclee Brouwer. She drew illustrative stories; the news of "Suzette on vacation, comics for the Week of Suzette and Bernadette in the 1950a, she illustrates for Suzette's Week in the 1930s. She was also a children's fashion designer, and after the illustrator Salcedo designed the clothes of the Bleuette Doll for Suzette's Week. A very talented illustrator .
