About This Item

New York: Skyhorse Publishing, 2013. Hardcover. Near Fine/Near Fine. A True Crime account of how in 1954 two teenaged girls in New Zealand -- Honorah Parker and Juliet Hulme (known today as crime writer Anne Perry) -- murdered Parker's mother, were arrested and confessed. Their motive, which came out at their sensational trial: Parker's mother stood in the way of the girls' plan to escape to America and become writers. Originally published in 2011 in New Zealand, this copy is the First U.S. edition, first printing (as stated, with complete numberline). About 6 1/4 x 9 1/4 inches, 341 pages including index, illustrated with nearly 50 b & w photos. Bound in black paper-covered boards with red lettering on spine. Dustjacket's front panel shows photos of Hulme and Parker against a black background and above title lettering in red. Back panel shows three blurbs praising the book against a dim forest landscape in red. Boards and text show only a slight spine lean, o/w book is complete, clean and unmarked, without any noticeable flaws. Not ex-library, not remaindered. Dustjacket shows a touch of rubbing and edgewear, o/w no tears, no creasing, chipping or bumping. Not price-clipped. A collectable copy of a true crime story with genuine irony.
