Description:
New York: Henry Holt and Company, 1943. This edition of "Centennial Summer" includes a beautiful dust jacket featuring Linda Darnell and Cornel Wilde on the front panel, and four scenes from the 1946 movie on the rear panel, again featuring Miss Darnell, Mr. Wilde, and other co-stars, including Jeanne Crain, William Eythe, Walter Brennan, Constance Bennett, and Bill Robinson. This is an ideal copy of the book to own for another reason as well. After this book had gone into its second printing, the secondary rights were sold to the World Publishing Company, a 1940s reprint house, whose books generally used poor quality, highly acidic paper, which resulted in serious page browning issues. However, in this particular instance, Henry Holt and Company, the original publisher, still had second printing copies in stock, and instead of remaindering or destroying these copies, they sold them directly to World Publishing along with the secondary publishing rights. World Publishing took these… Read More

Montreal: The Montreal News Co., Ltd., 1897. This is the first authorised and revised edition of a novel, previously published 20 years earlier in the United States in a pirated form due to lax copyright laws of that period, as explained in the author's own prefatory note. This revised edition was also legally published in the United States by L.C. Page & Company. This historical novel, set in old Quebec, offers the reader the type of romance, adventure, and political intrigue popularized by Alexandre Dumas. The book includes eight black-and-white full-page illustrations, including a frontis. The book is bound in a deep blue-green cloth with a gilt and red vignette illustration on the front panel as well as reddish-orange titles on the front panel and spine.
