Altogether a handsome set with an excellent…

Description:
Minneapolis: The Friend Publishing Company, 1938. Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good-. Bound in blue moire cloth with titles in gilt. Published November 1938; no additional printings. Signed by the author on the title page, without inscription. The autobiography of this Norwegian immigrant, who went to Lutheran seminary and later worked in the publishing business. Signature of author W. P. Hieronymus to the front free endpaper, likely the book's original recipient. (His book "At the Feet of the Master", was published by Friend just the year before.) Bookplate of Norwegian-American collector Herman Gimmestad to the front pastedown. The text is clean and unmarked. The cloth shows only a hint of edgewear. The dust wrapper, which was cut a bit too long, has a 1" chip at the upper front corner and slight chipping at the upper rear corner; the upper edge has been bent over the book for many years and is thus creased at that point. The untreated jacket paper shows some surface scuffing and…

Description:
Reykjavik: A Kostnad Sigm. Gudmundssonar, 1884. Soft cover. Very Good-. Icelandic language (at least we suppose so - it's difficult to differentiate from Norwegian and Danish). Bound in the original printed wraps; 76 pages. An Icelandic saga of medieval origin. Signed by the publisher, Sigm. Gudmundsson, to Professor Rasmus B. Anderson, one of the era's preeminent Norse researchers and a professor of Scandinavian Languages at the University of Wisconsin (Madison). The rear wrap carries other titles by this publisher. The wraps have been reinforced at the spine with an old-fashioned cloth tape, which appears to have kept this fragile volume together over the years. The outer wraps show mild toning and are slightly chipped at the edges. Internally the paper shows only faint toning and is not brittle; there is a slight bump at the upper corner. Very scarce in any form. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall
