Aelius Donatus was a Roman grammarian and teacher of rhetoric. St. Jerome states in Contra Rufinum 1.16 that Donatus was his tutor.

The top inch or so of the spine cover is missing, there are remains of staining on cover, there is offsetting to the lining papers, there is foxing in the text, most noticeably in the front pages and very heavy annotations in the text of the poem. Annotations are most often an unnecessary annoyance and defacement of a book but in this case they don't bother me as much. An acceptable copy of a scarce book. $20.00

Many pages still uncut, spotting to spine, chipping to label, some sun fading to bottom of front cover, small lateral tear to list of illustrations page, overall a good copy. This book was originally printed in London in 1894. $25.00

There is usual shelf wear, some fraying to head and heel of spine, cover dulled over the years, spine more than cover panels, some offset foxing to lining papers. Frontispiece has some minor wear to side paper edge. The illustrations are very well done by a fine artist. Good copy overall. Number 108 of 1000 copies printed for England and America. $50.00

Ancient world 1183 (Cicero). Seel, Otto. Cicero: Wort, Staat, Welt. Stuttgart: Ernst Klett Verlag, 1953, 494p, notes, illus. The book is in good, solid, clean shape, with no marks. It has been protected by a plastic dust wrapper drawn very tightly and tied down with scotch tape on the folds (but not on the paper). But the scotch tape strips have made a shadow on the lining papers. The tightness of the plastic covering have made the cover panels bow just a small bit, small bit of ruffling to side paper edge. Bound in red cloth. In German. $25.00
