This painting, with an especially exquisite rendering of Elijah Muhammad's iconic crushed black velvet diamond-encrusted kofia, was sourced in Bedford-Stuyvesant, home of Masjid Abdul Muhsi Khalifah, Temple 7C of the Nation of Islam, which was purchased by Malcolm X in the 1960s. Though unsigned, the portrait was executed by a talented portraitist, and is far superior to other images based on the NOI leader's famous official photo.
