The Grassy Stories by Margaret Tait is a collection of nine stories for chidren whose characters are presented as grasses and other flora found in the fields of Orkney. Margaret Tait was a pioneering filmmaker and now considered a leading figure in Britain's avant-garde film world of the 1950s and 60s. The book is in near perfect condition with only a very small tear to the top of the spine. The book is one of the 100 numbered copies featuring a hand-finished water colour painting by the author. Dove grey card covers with white title and author label to front, short story of eighteen pages. A nice example of fine press printing of a rare title.

One of 55 copies numbered 1 to 55, on hand made paper. This should not be confused with the softback and unsigned edition. An outstanding copy in very, very near fine condition. Robert Rendall was an extraordinary person who combined his work in the family drapery business with his interests in poetry, theology and conchology. His collection of seaweeds and shells is housed in the Stromness Museum. The book is in very good condition with no inscriptions.

General Kemp decided a newspaper for soldiers was necessary to combat boredom plaguing the numerous troops of the Orkney garrison and recruited Eric Linklater to do the job. 'The Orkney Blast' came into existence on 17th January, 1914 with the help of G M Meyers who later became the editor of 'The Orcadian' newspaper. The Blast also contained an article on St Magnus' Cathedral by J Storer Clouston. This very first edition of 'The Orkney Blast' is in good condition with browning of pages, two small holes where paper has been folded and minor chipping to edges. An historic piece of WWII military history that recognises the value of Scapa Flow, where Cockney soldiers brought the natural harbour into our language through their rhyming slang. A very scarce item.
