The Grassy Stories by Margaret Tait is a collection of nine stories for chidren whose characters are presented as grasses and other flora found in the fields of Orkney. Margaret Tait was a pioneering filmmaker and now considered a leading figure in Britain's avant-garde film world of the 1950s and 60s. The book is in near perfect condition with only a very small tear to the top of the spine. The book is one of the 100 numbered copies featuring a hand-finished water colour painting by the author. Curiously, the dust jacket uses 'For Ever' while the title page uses 'Forever'. Good vintage Burnett story about confidence trickster who is persuaded to put off his retirement to fleece the sucker to end all suckers. The story was taken up by Hollywood as subject of 1946 film. A very good copy with dust to top edge with slight browning to page edges as the book was published to 'War Economy Standard' corners of boards with slight bumping. Orange cloth boards with white lettering to spine. Dust jacket with browning to edges and tanning to spine and some chipping to extremities and loss to top of spine top.
